Midsumma Tournament

Saturday 21st January

One of the hottest days on record and what do we do?  We play hours of really tough but friendly volleyball inside a tin shed of course!  With teams from Adelaide and Canberra joining us in the furnace, the action was hot in every sense of the word.

Pride March

Midsumma Carnival

Good Friday Appeal Tournament

Friday 14th April

Played in the best of spirits against other charitable folk this tournament has become a Spikers favourite.  Players from a range of skill levels pulled together to represent the club and put on a great show of teamwork and never-say-die attitude.

Winter Tournament

Saturday 10th June

Melbourne, the city of extremes.  The thermometer officially did not reach 10 degrees while we ran around in shorts and "cool dry" uniforms!  Some amazingly close games kept the spectators cheering in their scarves and blankets.

Results and photos soon.

Uniform Launch & Wine Tasting

Sunday 11th June

There was glitz, there was glam, there was a lot of great wine to be tasted.  The official launch of the Melbourne Spikers Montreal uniforms had it all.  A hangover couldn't keep our MC down as Booka presented the long awaited designs to the enthusiastic crowd.  The boys of the Wineyard kept the vino flowing even after we completely rearranged their floor plan.  Life memberships were awarded to Craig and Grace for their long and valuable service to the club.

Check out the photos of the event!

Congratulations to Booka and Jenny for putting together both the outfits and the launch event, a very impressive job done extremely well.

If you're in the market for a good drop head in to the Wineyard.  Write Melbourne Spikers on your order form and the club will get 20% of your purchase.

World OutGames, Montreal

29th July - 5th August

Amazing atmosphere, intense competition and a great city - what an experience.
All members of the five teams who made the long journey put in incredible performances and should be extremely proud.  The club was extremely well represented and our unmistakable uniforms were hot property.

The cream on the cake was Gold for our B grade boys and Silver for Crisis!  Both teams can barely believe it and are very appreciative of the support they got from the crowd.

Stories and photos will be available soon as participants slowly make their way back home.

Annual General Meeting

Tuesday 17th October

Wow it finally happened - Grace has retired from the committee!  After countless years of incredible commitment she's stepped down from what many assumed to be her god-given right as president.  Even life membership is not thanks enough for Grace's contribution and we wish her well in her AVL coaching endeavours.

The other outgoing is Booka whose enthusiasm and ideas were the essential force behind the club's build-up to Montreal.  Representing the club Booka ensured the Spikers played an large part in the formation of QSAM and will continue to focus on this important group.

To fill the power vacuum, Stephen has taken up the presidency after lurking behind the scenes for 3 years.  Peta and Ian are the brand new committee members giving up their time and effort for the club.  Tim and Elizabeth are continuing their good work as treasurer and secretary respectively and Troy moves into the vice-president role.

Thank you to Grace and Booka, good luck to the new committee, it's a big year ahead!

End of Year Picnic

Sunday 10th December

With the mercury well over the 40 degree mark, the only thing cool was the champagne.  Despite the furnace-like conditions a healthy number of Spikers enjoyed a leisurely lunch and gossip.

There were plenty of members to thank during what has been the biggest year for the club so far.  Special thanks went to:
Grace, Booka, Jenny, Alison, Trevor, Chonghin
The Most Improved Player award went to Oui.  You would barely recognise Oui on the court after his hard work and perseverance, congratulations.
